Grand Canyon is the widest-ranging colourway story in the Essential Weaves collection, a fine viscose, linen, cotton and polyester ground offered in eight tones that move from pale stone through spice and blue to a genuine metallic bronze. There is no meaningful repeat, so each colourway reads as a flat, dependable ground, and the sheer breadth of the range makes it one of the house's most useful cloths for a multi-room project.

Composition is 42 per cent viscose, 33 per cent linen, 21 per cent cotton and 4 per cent polyester. It is 140 centimetres wide, with a 6 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and both loose and fixed upholstery. Eight colourways in total; among them Marble, Parchment, Spice, Soft Blue and Verdigris give a good sense of the range, from pale neutral through warm and cool to a soft green.

With eight tones to choose from, Grand Canyon is the cloth we reach for when a project needs curtains and upholstery coordinated across several rooms without repeating a single colour twice: Marble in one bedroom, Spice in a study, Verdigris in a garden room. Tested to 30,000 rubs on the Martindale, Grand Canyon is rated for upholstery, though at the lighter end of that range, so we would keep the heaviest daily-use pieces to a firmer weight where possible. Being close to a plain, there is minimal pattern to match at the seams, and ordering all pieces for one room from a single batch keeps the colour consistent.
