Grantly is a small-scale print from GP & J Baker's House Small Prints collection, the House's line of neat, all-over florals sized to work as a supporting cloth rather than a statement one, drawn at a neat 21 by 17 centimetre scale on a viscose-linen ground. It behaves more as texture than as a motif you would place deliberately, which makes it an easy print to run across a whole room of curtains and cushions without the pattern ever feeling insistent or hard to place against other fabrics.
The cloth is 82 per cent viscose and 18 per cent linen, a blend that favours drape and a gentle sheen in the printed colour. It is 136 centimetres wide, with a 21 centimetre vertical and 17 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and upholstery. Seven colourways in all; Indigo/Red, Blue, Aqua and Green are the four we turn to most, running from a grounded warm neutral to a clear, cool blue for a plainer room.
We use it for curtains in a bedroom or sitting room that wants a quiet, all-over pattern, and it covers a chair or window seat well where the small scale reads cleanly up close.
