Home Park is the parkland scene in Royal Court, GP & J Baker's wallpaper collection drawn from the archive of designs made for royal residences. Trees, open ground and a low horizon are printed in tonal layers, and at a 95 centimetre vertical repeat the scene is large enough to give a wall real distance. It is the paper in this collection that most changes the feel of a room: hung over four walls it reads as a landscape you are standing in rather than as a pattern you are looking at.
The ground is 100 per cent non-woven, printed 70 centimetres wide, with a 95 centimetre vertical repeat. Six colourways: Royal Green, Royal Blue, Antique, Ochre, Soft Green/Blue and Emerald. Emerald and Royal Green are the deepest. Royal Blue is the coolest and reads most graphic. Antique is the faded option and the easiest to live with over four walls. Ochre and Soft Green/Blue are the two that keep a small or dark room open.
We would paper a dining room, a study or a principal bedroom in this, and it is particularly good in a stairwell where the height lets the trees run. Hang nothing on it beyond a mirror. Keep the woodwork and ceiling in one quiet colour taken from the ground, and choose plain curtains. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Allow a full 95 centimetre repeat per drop and expect to lose most of it, so work the quantity out on paper before ordering. Paste the wall, hang dry and plan where the horizon falls in relation to the dado or the picture rail before the first length goes up. A four metre wall at 2.6 metres high takes six drops at this width, which is three rolls at the usual 10 metres.
