Hydrangea Sheer is a large-scale floral from the Ashmore collection, GP & J Baker's understated line of painterly prints and embroideries in a soft, contemporary palette, the hydrangea's full round bloom worked here on a genuinely sheer linen-viscose ground. At 78 by 63.5 centimetres the repeat is generous, so the flower reads clearly even through the fine, light-filtering cloth, an effect a furnishing-weight linen could never quite manage.
The cloth is 67 per cent linen and 33 per cent viscose, woven and finished as a true voile rather than a furnishing linen, so it lets light through while still carrying the printed pattern clearly across the width. It is 127 centimetres wide, with a 78 centimetre vertical and 63.5 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains. There is one colourway, Ivory, a soft, warm white that keeps the bloom quiet rather than graphic against the light.
We use it as a sheer curtain in its own right, hung close to the glass to filter daylight while still showing the hydrangea's shape, or layered behind a heavier curtain for privacy without losing the light. It suits a bedroom or a garden-facing sitting room particularly well, where the light does most of the work through the day. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Sheers need generous fullness to hang well, so allow at least double, and ideally two and a half times, the width of the window when you calculate quantities. Match the print across widths where the seam will show against the light, and have voiles hemmed by a workroom used to handling fine, light cloth with care.
