Imari takes its name from the richly decorated Japanese porcelain that has long influenced European textile and ceramic design, and the print carries something of that dense, botanical patterning at a generous scale: the repeat runs 62 by 137 centimetres, the full width of the cloth, so the motif trails continuously across a curtain rather than repeating in visible blocks at every seam.

The cloth is 67 per cent viscose and 33 per cent linen, giving the print a soft sheen over a linen-textured ground. It is 137 centimetres wide, with a 62 centimetre vertical and 137 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker tested it to 25,000 Martindale rubs, a figure that suits curtains and light upholstery rather than the heaviest daily use. Three colourways: Soft Blue, Teal and Red/Indigo; Soft Blue and Teal are the cooler, easiest options to build a scheme around.

We use it for a pair of curtains in a formal sitting room or dining room, where the full-width repeat can be appreciated across a generous window, and it covers a statement chair well, close enough to read the pattern clearly. Pair Red/Indigo with warm timber and brass, and Soft Blue or Teal with stone and cool metals. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Because the horizontal repeat is the full cloth width, lay the widths out with your maker before cutting so the print continues unbroken across a pair of curtains. Allow a full vertical repeat per drop. Line and interline curtains to protect the printed colour from strong sun.
