Indienne Flower is a botanical print from the Caspian collection, its name recalling the Indian-influenced block-printed florals that gave the indienne style its character, worked here at a generous scale on a pure linen ground. The 68 centimetre vertical repeat gives the flowers room to breathe, so the design reads as a considered print rather than a busy all-over pattern, and the linen ground gives the printed line a slightly soft, absorbed edge rather than a hard one.
The cloth is 100 per cent linen, 133 centimetres wide, with a 68 centimetre vertical and 44 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker tested it to 25,000 Martindale rubs, a figure that suits curtains and occasional-use pieces rather than a daily-use sofa, specifying it for curtains and upholstery. Four colourways: Blue, Emerald/Red, Red/Teal and Red; Emerald/Red is the most layered of the four, pairing a deep green with a warm red for a scheme that wants some contrast.
We would use it for a pair of curtains in a sitting room or a bedroom, where the generous repeat has space to unfold, and it covers a lightly used chair or a window seat well. Pair Blue or Red/Teal with a cool, contemporary scheme, and Emerald/Red or plain Red where the room wants more warmth from its fabrics. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Allow a full 68 centimetre repeat per drop and match the print across widths so the flowers continue cleanly at the seams. Line curtains as standard, and interline for a south-facing window, since printed colour on linen fades faster than a woven yarn-dyed cloth; at 25,000 rubs, keep upholstered pieces to lighter, occasional use rather than a hard-working family sofa.
