Iris Meadow is the softer, more fluid version of the Iris Meadow print from GP & J Baker's Original Brantwood collection, the naturalist archive named for Ruskin's house on Coniston Water in the Lake District, printed here on a viscose-linen ground rather than pure cotton. The wild iris meadow is drawn at a small, neat scale, 25 by 17 centimetres, so it reads as a fine, even print with a softer fall than the cotton version.
The cloth is 67 per cent viscose and 33 per cent linen, a blend that trades some of cotton's crispness for a softer drape and a little more sheen in the printed colour. It is 136 centimetres wide, with a 25 centimetre vertical and 17 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and upholstery. There is one colourway, Blue/Green, a cool, natural pairing that reads true to the meadow subject and sits well against stone or pale oak.
We use it for curtains where the softer viscose-linen ground shows off its drape at a window, and it covers a lightly used chair or a window seat well. It pairs naturally with Iris Meadow Cotton in the same design, one for curtains with more movement and one for a crisper, more upholstery-ready piece. Allow a full repeat per drop and match the print across widths, since the small scale shows any drift quickly at the seams. Line and interline curtains, since printed colour on a viscose-rich ground fades faster with unprotected sun than a woven yarn-dyed cloth; for upholstery, plan the pattern placement with your workroom before cutting.
