Kapisi belongs to East To West, GP & J Baker's collection of globally inspired prints, and it takes an ikat-influenced motif with the softened, blurred edge characteristic of that dyeing tradition, set out in a compact 13 by 36.5 centimetre repeat on a pure linen ground. It is a smaller-scale, textural print rather than a bold single motif, reading almost as a woven texture from across a room, and it wears its global reference lightly rather than as a literal copy.
The cloth is 100 per cent linen and 146 centimetres wide, with a 13 centimetre vertical and 36.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. GP & J Baker specify it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Two colourways: Indigo, a deep, classic ikat blue that reads as the more traditional of the pair, and Ochre, a warmer, more contemporary reading of the same design.
We use it for curtains in a room that wants texture and pattern without a large, dominant motif, and it works equally well as an upholstery cloth on a chair or a section of a sofa. Indigo suits a cooler, more classic room; Ochre brings warmth to a scheme with plenty of natural materials such as timber and rattan. Pair it with a plain linen in a matching tone, or with a bolder print from elsewhere in the range for contrast. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see the scale and colour in your own light.
Allow one full repeat per drop; the compact, textural repeat makes pattern matching more forgiving than a large-scale motif. Line and interline curtains, and press from the reverse to protect the print. For upholstery, ask your maker about railroading, and check with us for current rub test data before specifying it for the heaviest use.
