Kirov is a small-scale jacquard from the Cosmopolitan collection, an 8 by 6 centimetre spot woven into a viscose and silk ground so the motif catches the light as a shimmer rather than sitting flat on the surface. It is a quiet, glamorous texture rather than a bold pattern, the sort of cloth that reads as plain from a distance and detailed up close. The name nods to the collection's theatrical, cosmopolitan mood, and the cloth earns it: it is one of the more overtly luxurious weaves in the range.
The composition is 92 per cent viscose and 8 per cent silk, the silk lifting the sheen without dominating the hand. It is 130 centimetres wide, with an 8 centimetre vertical and 6 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains. Two colourways, Ivory and Silver; Ivory is the softer, warmer option, Silver the more overtly metallic of the two.
We use it for curtains in a bedroom or a dressing room where the light can catch the spot through the day, and it makes elegant cushions on a plain sofa. Pair Ivory with warm neutrals and brass, and Silver with cooler greys and chrome fittings, and consider it for a headboard where the shimmer reads well at close range. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Allow one repeat per drop; the small scale wastes little fabric even across several widths. Line and interline curtains so the cloth hangs with weight, and press from the reverse if at all, since the woven sheen can flatten under a hot iron. It is specified for curtains only, so keep it off seating, and store off-cuts flat rather than folded to avoid a crease catching the light permanently.
