Marigold is a large hand-drawn floral printed on cotton, from Kit Kemp's second collection with GP & J Baker. The flower heads are open and generous, the stems loose, and the ground is left plain enough for the drawing to breathe. On a curtain it gives a room a single, confident piece of pattern; on a chair it needs placing, because one bloom will take over the seat.

One hundred per cent cotton, 128 centimetres wide, which is the narrowest cloth in this group, with a repeat of 86 centimetres vertically and 64 centimetres horizontally. That combination of a narrow width and a large repeat is the thing to check before you order. It is listed for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Six colourways: Plaster, Ocean, Green, Spice, Blue and Sunshine. Plaster and Ocean are the restrained pair, while Sunshine and Spice are for a room you want to feel warm.

We use it for curtains and for a headboard where a single flower can be centred, and it is good on a blind in a kitchen, where the pattern sits above a plain run of cabinetry. Pair it with a plain cotton or linen in one of the print's quieter colours and leave the rest of the scheme alone. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

At 128 centimetres you will need more widths than usual, and with an 86 centimetre repeat each one costs a full extra repeat, so do the sum before you commit. Have the pattern centred on each curtain and on the headboard panel, and match the join carefully so the flower heads are not halved. Interline for weight.
