Marigold is a large-scale Kit Kemp floral of marigold heads and leaves drawn boldly across a wide 70 centimetre paper. With a 94 centimetre vertical repeat the flowers are big enough to read from across a room, and the drawing has the loose, painted quality that keeps a big floral from feeling formal or fussy. It is a paper that makes a room rather than decorates one. The flowers are drawn with the confidence of a painter rather than the precision of a botanist, which is why they work at this scale.
It is a non-woven, paste-the-wall paper on a 10 metre by 70 centimetre roll, with a 94 centimetre vertical repeat. Seven colourways: Plaster, Ocean, Green, Spice, Blue, Sunshine and Desert. Plaster and Desert are the soft options; Ocean and Blue are cooler; Green is fresh; Spice and Sunshine are the warmest and the most obviously Kit Kemp.
We use it behind a bed with Cubby on the other walls, on a single wall in a dining room, and on all four walls of a small cloakroom where a big pattern turns the space into a jewel box. Pair with plain linens in one of the flower colours. In a hallway it makes a strong backdrop for a console and a mirror, and on a landing it carries a stairwell. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
A 94 centimetre repeat means real waste: allow a full repeat per drop, so a 2.4 metre wall needs drops of up to 3.3 metres and a 10 metre roll yields two or three. A 3 metre wall at that height takes about 3 rolls. Paste the wall and hang dry. Order a spare roll for repairs.
