GP & J Baker | Meadow Fruit

Meadow Fruit is an archive design from Originals V, GP & J Baker's collection of reissued documentary prints, taking its fruit-and-foliage motif from the house's historic pattern archive and setting it on a soft viscose-linen ground. It is rooted in that archive tradition rather than being a new print, with naturalistic, hand-drawn fruit and leaf forms that mark out a documentary source rather than a contemporary repeat drawn fresh.

The cloth is 85 per cent viscose and 15 per cent linen, and it is 137 centimetres wide; repeat measurements were not captured in this harvest, so please check with us before specifying a large run. It is rated at 45,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery as well as curtains. GP & J Baker specify it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. There is one colourway, Charcoal/Green, a deep, grounding combination that reads as more graphic than the typical archive palette.

We use it for curtains in a room that wants real depth of colour, and the Martindale rating means it also covers a chair or a sofa for an upholstered take on the same print. Charcoal/Green suits a scheme with dark woodwork or a strong wall colour, where a paler archive print might disappear. Pair with a plain linen in charcoal or soft green for a tonal room, or let it stand alone. Order a sample to see the colour in your own light before specifying a full run.

Ask us to confirm the repeat before cutting so that drops and widths are calculated correctly, since exact repeat figures were not included in this harvest. Line and interline curtains, and press from the reverse to protect the print. For upholstery, ask your maker about railroading and centring the fruit motif on a large panel, and check with us for current rub test data before specifying it for the heaviest use.
