Meadow Trellis is a stitched trellis with meadow flowers climbing through it, worked in dense embroidery over a linen-cotton ground. The trellis gives it structure and the flowers soften it, so it reads as ordered from a distance and loose close to. With a 77 centimetre vertical repeat it is a large design that suits a full-length curtain or a bed, and the stitching is substantial enough to give the cloth real body. It is the design in Winslow that most rewards being seen flat.
The composition is 40 per cent linen, 39 per cent cotton, 13 per cent polyester and 8 per cent viscose, the last two being the threads. It is 134 centimetres wide with a 77 centimetre vertical and 67 centimetre horizontal repeat, and it is specified for curtains and bedspreads. Two colourways: Blue, a single-tone reading that is calm and easy to place, and Denim/Red, which adds a soft red to the blue and is warmer.
We use it for curtains in a sitting room or bedroom, for a bedspread, and as a headboard fabric where the trellis can be centred. It is also good as a pair of large cushions on a plain sofa. Pair with plain linens in blue and a small stitched geometric such as Aylsham. In a hallway it makes a good window seat cushion or a bench squab. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Allow a full 77 centimetre repeat per drop and match the trellis across widths; a trellis shows any drift at the seams. Line and interline curtains, and press from the reverse over a soft cloth. It is not rated for upholstery. For a headboard, centre a trellis column and let the flowers run off the sides.
