Merrin is the smallest-scale print in the Chifu collection, a neat, all-over motif set at a tight 11 by 9 centimetre repeat that reads as fine texture rather than pattern from more than a few paces away. It is the cloth we would use to add colour and a little life to a scheme without introducing a motif that needs matching against a larger companion print.
The cloth is 53 per cent cotton and 47 per cent linen, a firm, natural-fibre blend that gives the small print a crisp, absorbed edge rather than a soft, blurred one. It is 132 centimetres wide, with an 11 centimetre vertical and 9 centimetre horizontal repeat, and no rub count is stated, so we would keep it to curtains and occasional upholstery rather than daily-use seating. Four colourways: Blue, Stone, Aqua and Green; Stone is the quietest neutral, Aqua the coolest accent for a mixed scheme.
We use it for curtains in a hallway, kitchen or garden room, and it covers a small chair or footstool well where the tight repeat holds up to close inspection at hand height and rewards it. Pair it with a larger companion print from the Chifu collection, or keep it as the only pattern in an otherwise plain room. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
The small repeat wastes little fabric in the cutting; allow around 11 centimetres per drop for matching across widths. Line curtains as standard, and interline for a bright room to protect the printed colour from fading. As no rub count is given, keep upholstery to lightly used pieces rather than daily seating in a busy household.
