Muza is named for the old Red Sea trading port, and it is the lightest-handed of the East to West weaves: a soft, close texture in linen, cotton, viscose and a little polyester, with a repeat small enough to read as an even, all-over grain rather than a pattern with a beginning and end. It is the design in the group we reach for when a room wants texture without any sense of a motif repeating.

Composition is 35 per cent linen, 30 per cent cotton, 25 per cent viscose and 10 per cent polyester. It is 128 centimetres wide, with a 38 centimetre vertical and 32 centimetre horizontal repeat, tested to 10,000 rubs on the Martindale, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains. There is one colourway, Spice, a warm burnt orange that reads terracotta in daylight and deepens by lamplight.

We use Muza for curtains in a room that wants warmth without a bold pattern, a study or a dining room in particular, where the texture reads as colour first and pattern second. It also makes a good blind, since the small repeat sits flat and even when the cloth is folded. Pair it with a plain cream or a soft green. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

The small repeat is forgiving to match, so wastage is low; allow a little over the standard calculation for the drop rather than a full extra repeat. At 10,000 rubs it is a curtain and blind weave rather than an upholstery cloth, so keep it off hard-used seating. Line curtains for a good fall and to protect the colour from strong sun.
