Netherton is a plain-woven texture from the Cosmopolitan Weaves range, a mixed-fibre cloth with no repeat to match and a fine, even surface built for hard wear rather than pattern. It is one of the collection's more robust companion plains, the sort of cloth we use to ground a scheme built around a bolder print. Cross-listed in the Essential Weaves neutrals, it is one of the House's more versatile plains, equally at home as the main cloth on a sofa or as the quiet half of a scheme led by a stronger print.
The composition is 45 per cent viscose, 35 per cent cotton, 16 per cent linen and 4 per cent polyester. It is 137 centimetres wide with no stated repeat, and GP & J Baker tested it to 35,000 Martindale rubs, which is rated for upholstery. Two colourways, Taupe and Brick; Taupe is the quieter neutral, Brick a warm terracotta that works well against stone and timber.
We use it for a sofa or a pair of armchairs in daily use, and for curtains in a room that wants a plain rather than a pattern. Pair Taupe with almost any print in the collection, and use Brick to warm up a scheme built on greys and stone; both read as genuine neutrals rather than colours that compete for attention. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
With no repeat, cutting is simple and wastage low, which helps on a large upholstery order. Line curtains for a good fall; for upholstery, standard construction applies, and at 35,000 rubs it will stand up to a family sofa in regular use without special handling. Check the dye lot across a large order, as is normal practice with any yarn-dyed plain, so seat and back panels match exactly.
