Noah's Ark is the story design of the collection: pairs of animals drawn in Kit Kemp's loose, stitched-looking hand and set in a processional repeat across a wide 70 centimetre paper. The 84 centimetre vertical repeat means the animals are drawn at a good size, and the wall reads as a frieze that keeps unfolding. It is playful without being nursery-ish, which is why it works in grown-up rooms as well as children's. The animals are drawn with affection rather than accuracy, which is a large part of the charm.
It is a non-woven, paste-the-wall paper on a 10 metre by 70 centimetre roll, with an 84 centimetre vertical repeat. Six colourways: Plaster, Blue, Green, Spice, Indigo and Savannah. Plaster and Savannah are the soft neutrals; Blue and Green are fresh; Spice is warm; Indigo is the deepest and best in a room with lamplight rather than daylight.
We use it in a child's bedroom, but also a playroom, a family bathroom or a boot room, and we have put Indigo in a small dining room where it reads as a modern tapestry. Pair with Cubby plain on adjacent walls and plain linens in an animal colour. In a hallway or on a landing it makes a good backdrop for a run of pictures. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
The wide roll and long repeat mean fewer drops but more waste; allow a full 84 centimetres per drop. A 3 metre wall at 2.4 metres high takes about 2 rolls. Paste the wall and hang dry. Check the match on the label before cutting anything. The wide roll makes a small room quicker to hang, but check that your decorator is happy with a 70 centimetre width before ordering.
