Patola Paisley is a printed paisley from the Caspian collection, its outline softened and feathered rather than crisply drawn, worked at a dense, all-over scale. The repeat is compact, 24 by 11.5 centimetres, so the pattern reads as an even paisley texture rather than a single dominant motif, and the part-viscose ground gives it a soft fall rather than a stiff one. It is a confident print with a slightly worldly character, the kind we reach for where a room wants pattern with some depth to it.

The cloth is 82 per cent viscose and 18 per cent linen, a blend that favours drape and a soft printed line over crispness. It is 138 centimetres wide, with a 24 centimetre vertical and 11.5 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker tested it to 50,000 Martindale rubs, which is rated for upholstery, specifying it for curtains and upholstery. Four colourways: Red, Emerald, Blue and Aqua; Emerald is the one we reach for most, a deep, grounded green that sits well against both warm and cool neighbours.

We use it for curtains in a room that wants pattern without stiffness, and at 50,000 rubs it upholsters confidently on a sofa or a pair of armchairs in daily use. Pair Emerald with warm timber and brass, Blue or Aqua with a cooler, more contemporary scheme, and keep the rest of the room's pattern to a minimum so the paisley carries the interest.
