GP & J Baker | Persian Garden Linen

Persian Garden Linen belongs to East To West, GP & J Baker's collection of globally inspired prints, and it takes a Persian garden motif and sets it out in a 44 by 69.5 centimetre repeat on a linen-rich, cotton-viscose ground. The design draws on the formal, symmetrical planting of a traditional Persian garden, giving it a more architectural structure than a loosely scattered floral, with clipped hedges and repeating beds rendered in a soft, tonal palette.

The cloth is 46 per cent cotton, 36 per cent viscose and 18 per cent linen, and it is 139 centimetres wide, with a 44 centimetre vertical and 69.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. GP & J Baker specify it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. There is one colourway, Natural, an undyed, tonal reading that lets the garden motif show as texture and shadow rather than strong colour contrast.

We use it for curtains in a room that wants pattern without strong colour, and it works well as an upholstery cloth on a chair or a sofa that needs to stay quiet within a busier scheme. It pairs naturally with Persian Garden Velvet, the plush companion in the same design, on a cushion or a smaller chair for a considered mix of finishes, and it layers well with a plain wool or heavier weave for contrast in texture.
