GP & J Baker | Pumpkins

Pumpkins is a documentary print from Originals V, GP & J Baker's collection of reissued archive designs, taking a harvest motif of pumpkins and foliage and setting it out in a 34 by 36 centimetre repeat. It is a design with real personality, more graphic than a typical archive floral, and it draws its charm from the same historic pattern-book tradition as the rest of the Originals V range.

The cloth is 85 per cent viscose and 15 per cent linen, and it is 137 centimetres wide, with a 34 centimetre vertical and 36 centimetre horizontal repeat. It is rated at 45,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery as well as curtains. GP & J Baker specify it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Three colourways: Indigo, a strong single-tone blue; Red/Green, a warm and cool combination with real depth; and Grey/Ochre, a softer, more neutral pairing.

We use it for curtains in a room that wants a genuine talking point, and the Martindale rating means it also covers a chair or a section of a sofa for a bolder, upholstered take on the print. Indigo suits a cooler, more tailored room; Red/Green has the warmth for a more traditional scheme, and Grey/Ochre sits quietly in between. It pairs naturally with Pumpkins Velvet, the matching cotton velvet in the same design, for a layered scheme. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see the scale and colour in your own light.

Allow one full repeat per drop and match carefully across widths so the motif aligns at the seams. Line and interline curtains, and press from the reverse to protect the print.
