Queen's Garden Velvet is part of GP & J Baker's collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces, a companion design to Royal Garden Velvet within the same Royal Gardens collection, taking its own garden motif and setting it on a soft, viscose-rich velvet ground. The 52 by 69 centimetre repeat is a touch more compact than Royal Garden's, giving it a slightly denser, more textural presence.

The cloth is 55 per cent viscose and 45 per cent cotton, and it is 137 centimetres wide, with a 52 centimetre vertical and 69 centimetre horizontal repeat. It is rated at 50,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery as well as curtains. GP & J Baker specify it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Two colourways: Jade, a cool, clear green, and Verdigris, a softer, more blue-green patina tone.

We use it for a chair or a section of a sofa where a plush, patterned velvet can anchor a room, and for curtains in a formal room that wants a garden motif with real depth. Jade and Verdigris sit close enough in tone to be used together in the same room without competing, one on a chair and the other on a cushion or a smaller piece. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see the pile and colour together in your own light.

Allow one full repeat per drop and match carefully across widths so the garden motif aligns at the seams. For upholstery, ask your maker about railroading on a wide sofa and about pile direction, since a printed velvet should be cut with the pile running consistently. Dry clean only; do not wash, bleach or iron it.
