Quinton is an Essential Weaves design in viscose, polyester, cotton and linen, with no meaningful repeat and three colourways that move from a warm sand through a clear blue to a cool grey. It is a flexible house neutral rather than a pattern, chosen for colour rather than motif, and its three tones cover most of what a scheme is likely to need from a single base cloth, from a warm cottage sitting room to a cooler, more contemporary bedroom.

Composition is 38 per cent viscose, 23 per cent polyester, 21 per cent cotton and 18 per cent linen. It is 139 centimetres wide, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and both loose and fixed upholstery. Three colourways: Sand, a warm neutral; Blue, a clear mid-tone; and Mineral, a cool grey.

We use Quinton across curtains and upholstery in one scheme, Sand for a warm room, Blue or Mineral for a cooler one. It suits a bedroom particularly well, where a dependable neutral on both the bed surround and the window keeps the room calm, and a window seat base in Sand reads warm and inviting even in a room with little natural light. Pair with a documentary print for contrast. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

There is no published rub count for Quinton, so ask your supplier for current test data before specifying hard daily-use upholstery; we would treat it as suited to curtains, blinds and lighter occasional seating. Being close to a plain, there is no pattern to match; line curtains as usual, and order all cloth for one room from a single batch for consistent colour.
