Royal Court is the design the collection is named after, taken from GP & J Baker's archive of patterns made for royal residences and printed here as a wallpaper. It is a mid-scale floral trail, the stems in one tone and the heads in another, and the trail moves diagonally across the paper so the eye keeps travelling rather than stopping on a single motif. At a 42 centimetre vertical repeat it is the most conventional pattern in the collection and the easiest to use over four walls.
The ground is 100 per cent non-woven, printed 70 centimetres wide, with a 42 centimetre vertical repeat. Six colourways: Red/Green, Old Blue, Red, Aqua, Parchment and Pink/Green. Parchment is the near-neutral and reads as texture. Old Blue and Aqua are the cool, easy pair. Red and Red/Green are the strongest and suit a dining room used in the evening. Pink/Green is the softest and the obvious bedroom choice.
We would paper a bedroom, a dressing room or a small sitting room in this, and it takes a dado or a run of panelling well. It is also a sensible choice for a guest bathroom, where a busier print keeps the eye off the sanitaryware. Curtains should be plain or a small check, and the woodwork painted from the ground rather than the flower. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Paste the wall and hang the lengths dry. Allow one 42 centimetre repeat per drop for matching. A four metre wall at 2.6 metres high takes six drops at this width, which is two to three rolls at the usual 10 metres depending on the ceiling height. On a trailing pattern, start at the most prominent corner and let the pattern break fall in the least visible one.
