GP & J Baker | Royal Garden Linen

Royal Garden Linen is the printed companion to Royal Garden Velvet, part of GP & J Baker's collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces, taking the same garden motif and setting it on a flat cotton-viscose-linen ground rather than a pile fabric. The design is set out in a 70 by 71 centimetre repeat, close to square, giving the print a balanced, all-over presence across a width of cloth, with a crisper, more graphic line than the softened edge the velvet version takes on.

The cloth is 46 per cent cotton, 36 per cent viscose and 18 per cent linen, and it is 142 centimetres wide, with a 70 centimetre vertical and 71 centimetre horizontal repeat. GP & J Baker specify it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. There is one colourway, Jewel, a multi-toned combination of deep, saturated colours that carries the same rich palette as the velvet version of the design, so the two can be mixed freely in the same room.

We use it for curtains in a formal room that can carry a design with real palace pedigree, and it makes a striking bedspread with the garden motif reading clearly across the width of a bed. It pairs naturally with Royal Garden Velvet on a chair or a cushion for a considered scheme that mixes the two finishes of the same design, one flat and graphic, the other soft and plush. Allow one full repeat per drop and match carefully across widths so the garden motif aligns at the seams. Line and interline curtains, and press from the reverse to protect the print. For upholstery, ask your maker about railroading, and check with us for current rub test data before specifying it for the heaviest use.
