Tall Trees Printed Panel is Kit Kemp's wooded scene for GP & J Baker, printed on cloth as a single full-width panel. The repeat is 300 centimetres vertically and the full 137 centimetre width horizontally, which means one length of fabric holds one complete scene. It is designed to be used as a panel rather than cut into like an ordinary yardage.
The base cloth is 82 per cent viscose and 18 per cent linen at 137 centimetres wide, with a 300 centimetre vertical and 137 centimetre horizontal repeat. GP & J Baker list it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Three colourways: Soft Green, Delft Blue and Sunset. Soft Green reads as a real wood, Delft Blue turns the scene graphic and cool, and Sunset warms the whole panel through.
We use panels like this stretched on a batten frame and hung as a picture, set into the flat of a cupboard door, or made up as a single unlined blind for a tall window. A pair either side of a bed works better than one on its own. We have also used panels of this kind on the two flat doors of a fitted wardrobe, bordered in a plain linen so the scene sits inside a frame rather than running to the edge. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Buy it by the panel rather than by the metre: a 300 centimetre repeat means the minimum useful cut is 3 metres, and anything less will not give you a whole scene. Work out the finished size before ordering, allow for turnings outside the printed area, and mark the top of the panel on the reverse as soon as it is cut so the scene is never hung upside down.
