Tetbury Stripe is a printed stripe from the Portobello collection, a narrow, even stripe drawn on a pure linen ground with a 5.8 centimetre horizontal repeat. It brings the same quiet formality as the collection's other stripe, Ebury Stripe, though at a noticeably tighter, more delicate scale that reads almost as a fine, even texture from across a room rather than a distinct set of lines.
The cloth is 100 per cent linen, which gives the printed stripe a soft, absorbed edge rather than the crisper line of a woven yarn-dyed cloth. It is 138 centimetres wide, with a 5.8 centimetre horizontal repeat; no vertical repeat is stated for this design, which keeps cutting and quantity calculations straightforward for a maker. There is one colourway, Blue, an even, versatile tone that works comfortably with most existing schemes and neutrals.
We use it for curtains in a room that wants quiet order without a heavy pattern, and it covers a pair of dining chairs or a window seat well where the fine stripe holds up to close inspection at hand height. Pair it with a plain linen in blue, or a larger-scale floral from the Portobello collection for contrast. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Stripes need careful matching: keep the stripe running true and level across a run of curtains or a pair of chairs, and agree the direction with your maker before cutting, since a printed stripe can run either up the piece or across it depending on the application chosen. Line curtains as standard, and interline for a bright room to protect the printed colour from fading in strong, unfiltered sun.
