Tradewind is the small-scale pattern in the second Kit Kemp wallpaper collection: a tight, two-colour repeat with a stitched, hand-drawn quality that reads as texture from a distance and as pattern close to. With a 20 centimetre repeat it is the paper you use when the room needs interest but not a statement, or when a statement paper is already on the next wall and the rest needs to hold back. The stitched line gives it more warmth than a printed geometric, and the two colours keep it from flattening into a texture.
It is a non-woven, paste-the-wall paper on a standard 10 metre by 52 centimetre roll, with a 20 centimetre vertical repeat. Six colourways: Espresso/Tuscan, Indigo, Red/Blue, Red/Green, Teal/Spice and Blue/Green. Espresso/Tuscan and Indigo are the deep options; Red/Blue and Red/Green are the most decorative; Teal/Spice and Blue/Green are the easiest to pair with the florals in the collection.
We use it in corridors, bathrooms and small bedrooms, on all four walls, and as the companion paper to Marigold or Noah's Ark in a larger room. It is good behind bookshelves and in a study. Pair with plain linens or with Cubby. In a child's room it is a good companion to Noah's Ark or Roar Stitch, and in a study it makes a background for books and pictures without competing with them. The short repeat wastes little: allow 20 centimetres per drop, and a 3 metre wall at 2.4 metres high takes about 2 rolls. Paste the wall, hang dry and check the match on the label. One batch per room. Order a spare roll for repairs, and reverse alternate drops only if the label asks for it.
