Treen is an Artisan II weave in linen and viscose with a 29 by 45.5 centimetre repeat, close enough in scale to Elvington and Kersloe to sit alongside them in the same room, but in a cooler, quieter colourway that reads as a genuine neutral rather than an accent. It is the design in the collection we reach for most often when a client wants texture but is nervous of colour, since the grey ground asks very little of a room and lets everything else do the talking.
Composition is 65 per cent linen and 35 per cent viscose. It is 137 centimetres wide, with a 29 centimetre vertical and 45.5 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains. There is one colourway, Dove, a soft, cool grey with none of the warmth that runs through most of the Artisan range.
We use Treen for curtains in a room built around a cooler palette, where the grey ground can sit against charcoal, black-painted timber or pale stone without warming the scheme. It is also a useful backdrop for a stronger accent colour on cushions or a chair, and it pairs particularly well with anything metallic, since the grey lets silver and chrome read cleanly. Pair it with a plain wool in charcoal. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Allow one repeat per drop and match at the seams; the repeat is close enough that drift is easy to spot. Line curtains fully. There is no published rub count for Treen, so we specify it for curtains and blinds rather than upholstery, and would ask the supplier for current test data before considering a firmer use.
