Tudor Square is a woven geometric from the Royal Gardens group, a formal, architectural repeat woven with a metallic zari thread running through the cotton and silk ground, so the pattern catches the light with a warm metallic glint rather than reading as flat colour. At 34 centimetres square the repeat is a true geometric scale, substantial enough to read from across a room.
The composition is 50 per cent cotton, 26 per cent zari, 15 per cent polyester and 9 per cent silk, the zari being the metallic thread that gives the weave its glint. It is 136 centimetres wide, with a 34 centimetre vertical and 34 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains. There is one colourway, Bronze, a warm, burnished metallic that suits a room with dark timber and aged brass.
We use it for a pair of curtains in a formal drawing room or a study, somewhere the metallic thread can catch lamplight in the evening, and it makes a striking pair of cushions on a plain velvet sofa. Pair it with a plain wool or velvet in a deep green or blue to let the bronze read as an accent. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Allow a full 34 centimetre repeat per drop and match the geometric across widths so the squares align cleanly at the seams. Line and interline curtains, and press with care, since a metallic thread can be damaged by a very hot iron; a cool iron over a cloth, or steaming, is the safer approach. It is specified for curtains rather than upholstery, so keep it to windows and cushions.
