GP & J Baker | Tulip & Jasmine

Tulip & Jasmine is a documentary print from Originals V, GP & J Baker's collection of reissued archive designs, pairing two classic flower forms in a compact, all-over 34 centimetre square repeat. The tulip and jasmine motifs interlace rather than sitting as separate blooms, giving the print a more continuous, textile-like quality than a widely spaced floral.

The cloth is 85 per cent viscose and 15 per cent linen, and it is 137 centimetres wide, with a 34 centimetre repeat both vertically and horizontally. It is rated at 45,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery as well as curtains. GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and loose and fixed upholstery. Two colourways: Red/Ochre, a warm, autumnal pairing, and Teal, a single cooler tone that lets the tulip and jasmine shapes read more graphically.

We use it for curtains in a room that wants pattern without an oversized motif, and the Martindale rating means it also covers a chair or a section of a sofa. Red/Ochre suits a warmer, more traditional room; Teal is the better choice for a cooler, more contemporary scheme. Pair it with a plain linen or one of the House plains in a matching tone for a considered, coordinated room. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see the scale and colour in your own light.

Allow one full repeat per drop and match carefully across widths so the tulip and jasmine motifs align at the seams. Line and interline curtains, and press from the reverse to protect the print. For upholstery, ask your maker about railroading, and check with us for current rub test data before specifying it for the heaviest use, since it is not specified for bedspreads.
