Tweak is the small mark in Kit Kemp's GP & J Baker range, printed here on 100 per cent cotton. The repeat is only 13 centimetres tall and under 10 centimetres across, so from any distance it behaves as a texture and the wobble in the drawn line only shows when you are close. On cotton it has a crisp, dry handle and takes a sharp fold.
It is 100 per cent cotton, 137 centimetres wide, with a 13 centimetre vertical and 9.7 centimetre horizontal repeat. GP & J Baker list it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Five colourways: Cocoa, Teal, Blue, Green and Yellow. Cocoa is the neutral of the set; Teal and Blue hold their own against a strong wall colour; Yellow lifts a dark room and Green sits quietly with natural materials.
Small prints on cotton earn their keep in the working parts of a house. We use this for Roman blinds in a kitchen, for loose covers on a kitchen chair, for cushions that have to be washed, and as a lining for curtains made in one of the larger Kit Kemp prints. It is also the cloth we would put on the inside of a window seat lid or the lining of a fitted basket, where a plain cotton would look unfinished and a larger print would be lost. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
The short repeat means almost no cutting waste and very little matching to worry about, and a blind up to 130 centimetres cuts from a single width. Cotton shrinks a little, so have curtains made with a generous double hem you can drop later, and ask for the blind battens to be set so the drawn line runs true rather than following the window.
