Tweak is the smallest of Kit Kemp's papers for GP & J Baker: a tight, hand-drawn mark repeated at 13.5 centimetres so that it reads as a woven texture from any distance at all. Up close you can see the wobble in the line, which is the point, because it stops the wall looking machine-made. This is a background paper in the proper sense, one that gives a room a surface rather than a subject.
The ground is 100 per cent non-woven at 70 centimetres wide, with a 13.5 centimetre vertical repeat. Seven colourways: Cocoa, Spice, Plaster, Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. Cocoa and Plaster are the ones we reach for when the paper has to sit behind something else; Red, Blue, Green and Yellow are clear, flat colours that work better over a whole small room than on one wall.
We use it to line a cloakroom or a boot room from skirting to cornice, to paper the back of a bookcase, or to take a run of fitted cupboard doors in a bedroom. It pairs well with a stronger Kit Kemp print used on a blind or a headboard, where the small mark keeps the larger design from crowding. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
This is a paste-the-wall paper. The short repeat means very little waste, and at a 2.5 metre ceiling a 10 metre roll yields three full drops, so a 4 metre wall takes two rolls. Because the mark is so small, joins want care: butt the seams rather than overlapping, roll them lightly, and check the roll labels for the match and the batch number before you begin.
