GP & J Baker | Veryan

Veryan belongs to Artisan II, GP & J Baker's collection of textural, craft-influenced designs, and it takes a small, all-over geometric motif and sets it out in a compact 10 by 14.5 centimetre repeat on a linen-cotton ground. The scale is deliberately fine, reading almost as a woven texture rather than a printed pattern from across a room, in keeping with the handmade quality the Artisan II range is built around.

The cloth is 52 per cent linen and 48 per cent cotton, and it is 130 centimetres wide, with a 10 centimetre vertical and 14.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. It is rated at 20,000 rubs on the Martindale test, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads, though we would recommend checking current rub test data with us before specifying it for the heaviest upholstery use. Two colourways: Indigo, a deep classic blue, and Spice, a warm burnt orange.

We use it for curtains in a room that wants texture and pattern without a large, dominant motif, and it makes a good choice for a lighter chair or a set of cushions. Indigo suits a cooler, more classic room; Spice brings warmth to a scheme with plenty of natural materials such as timber and rattan. Pair it with a plain linen in a matching tone, or with Thornham, its companion in the same collection, for a considered, layered scheme. Allow one full repeat per drop; the compact, textural repeat makes pattern matching more forgiving than a large-scale motif.
