Winton is a printed design from the Cosmopolitan collection, worked at a mid-to-large scale on an almost entirely viscose ground, which gives the printed colour a soft lustre rather than the flatter finish of a linen print. At 58 by 34 centimetres the repeat is generous enough to read clearly across a curtain without needing a very wide window, and the viscose base lets it drape softly at a window rather than standing stiffly away from the glass.
The cloth is 89 per cent viscose and 11 per cent polyester, a combination chosen for drape and printed clarity rather than hard wear. It is 136 centimetres wide, with a 58 centimetre vertical and 34 centimetre horizontal repeat, and GP & J Baker specify it for curtains and upholstery. There is one colourway, Grey/Mustard, an unusual, slightly acid pairing that reads as more sophisticated than either colour would alone.
We use it for curtains in a study or a sitting room that wants a note of colour without committing to a bright scheme, and it covers a chair or a stool well where the grey grounds the mustard. Pair it with a plain grey wool or linen, and let the mustard appear again in a cushion or a lampshade. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Allow a full 58 centimetre repeat per drop and match the print across widths so the pattern continues cleanly. Line curtains as standard, and interline for a bright room, since printed colour on a viscose-rich ground will fade with unprotected sun. For upholstery, plan the pattern placement with your workroom before cutting so the repeat falls well on the finished piece.
