Woodland Trail is a botanical embroidery of leaves and stems winding across a pale linen ground, stitched in one accent colour so the trail reads clearly against the cloth. The viscose thread catches the light and the linen stays matte, which gives the design a quiet depth. With a 64 centimetre repeat it is a mid-to-large design that suits a full-length curtain without feeling heavy. It is the most restful of the trails in the collection and the one we specify most often.
The composition is 75 per cent linen and 25 per cent viscose, the viscose being the embroidery thread. It is 132 centimetres wide with a 64 centimetre vertical and 66 centimetre horizontal repeat, and it is specified for curtains and bedspreads. Two colourways: Ivory/Aqua, a blue-green trail on ivory, and Ivory/Coral, a warm coral on the same ground. Aqua is the cooler and more restful; Coral suits a room that needs warmth.
We use it for curtains in a bedroom or a garden room, for a bedspread, and for a pair of cushions on a plain sofa. It is quiet enough to use on all the windows in a room. Pair with plain linens in the accent colour and Aylsham on a chair. In a landing window or a bathroom it works as a roman blind, and in a hallway it makes a good bench cushion where the pale ground shows off the stitch. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Match the trail across widths so it runs unbroken; allow one repeat per drop. Line and interline curtains, and press from the reverse over a soft cloth. It is not rated for upholstery. A blind wants a firm lining so the trail reads crisply when it is down.
