Wriggle Room is Kit Kemp's squiggle for GP & J Baker, printed small on a viscose and linen ground. At a 21 centimetre vertical and 15 centimetre horizontal repeat it reads as movement rather than motif, and from across a room it does the job of a plain textured cloth while still being recognisably drawn by hand. The cloth is light, soft and easy to work with.
Composition is 82 per cent viscose and 18 per cent linen at 137 centimetres wide. GP & J Baker list it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Five colourways: Sage, Ochre, Green/Pink, Blue/Yellow and Teal/Spice. The single colours are the ones we would run across a whole window; the paired colourings put a second tone into the line and are better used on smaller pieces where they can be seen properly. The repeat is 21 centimetres vertically and 15 centimetres horizontally, small enough to be treated almost as a plain when you are estimating.
This is a good supporting cloth. We use it for Roman blinds, for the seat of a bedroom chair, for cushions that sit alongside a bigger print, and for loose covers where a plain would look flat. It also makes a good lampshade. It is one of the few Kit Kemp designs that will sit next to another Kit Kemp design without a fight. With a 15 centimetre horizontal repeat there are nine repeats across the width, so joins can be placed almost anywhere and a blind cuts from a single width. Allow one 21 centimetre repeat per drop for curtains. On upholstery, run the drawn line vertically up the inside back and across the seat so the movement follows the shape of the chair.
