Lelievre | Tanoa

Tanoa is a jacquard from Lelièvre's Empreintes collection, woven entirely in flame-retardant polyester in a large 76 by 35 centimetre repeat that gives it real scale and a slight sheen typical of a well-made polyester jacquard. The pattern is set into the weave itself, so it has more depth than a print, and at this scale it works as a genuine focal fabric rather than a background texture.

Composition is polyester FR 100 per cent, at a width of 141 centimetres. Because the yarn itself is flame-retardant rather than treated after weaving, the performance does not wash or dry-clean out over the life of the cloth, which matters for contract work, hospitality projects and holiday lets where fire compliance has to hold up under regular use. It is tested to 40,000 Martindale rubs and rated to M1 and EN1021 parts 1 and 2. There are three colourways: Naturel, Mordore and Boise, all warm neutrals that sit easily against timber and stone.

We specify Tanoa where a scheme needs both the performance and the presence: a sofa or headboard in a rental property, curtains or wall upholstery in a hospitality setting, or simply a striking upholstery fabric in a family home where a flame-retardant cloth gives peace of mind. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light, as the sheen in a polyester jacquard reads differently under different lighting. Cushions in the same cloth carry the pattern through a room without a full re-upholster.

With a repeat this large, always order enough to match the pattern across cushions, arms and curtain widths, and brief the maker on the 76 by 35 centimetre repeat before cutting. As with any FR polyester, avoid high heat when pressing seams; a cool iron or steaming from a distance is the safer approach.
