Elaris is a jacquard-woven upholstery texture from Lizzo's Echo collection, built on a cotton ground with a small share of polyamide for strength. The weave sets matt and sheen yarns against each other, so the surface has a quiet, shifting quality rather than a drawn motif; it reads as a plain from across a room and as a texture close to. At 630 grams per square metre it has real body in the hand, and it lies flat and firm over a frame.
The composition is 88 per cent cotton and 12 per cent polyamide, on a 140 centimetre width, with no pattern repeat to allow for. It is rated at 50,000 rubs on the Martindale test, which puts it comfortably into contract territory as well as heavy family use, and Lizzo recommends it for upholstery, curtains and lighter decorative work. There are seven numbered colourways in the muted, mid-toned register that a two-tone weave handles best; the number is all you need when ordering.
We tend to use Elaris where a plain would look too flat and a pattern too busy: a pair of armchairs in a sitting room, the seat and back of a run of dining chairs, or a bench at the end of a bed. It takes well to a tight, tailored cover with a double-piped edge, and it holds its own against a printed linen at the window or a heavier velvet on the sofa. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
With no repeat, cutting is straightforward and waste is minimal, but the sheen has a direction, so keep every panel running the same way down the roll and check the nap with your upholsterer before cutting. Allow roughly 1.5 metres for a standard dining chair seat and back, and 6 to 7 metres for a two-seat sofa; as a curtain, line and interline it so the weight hangs cleanly.
