Lizzo | Lobby

Lobby is a geometric jacquard velvet from Lizzo's Echo collection, woven in a cotton and viscose blend. The pattern is a small, repeating geometric cut into the pile, so the design shows as a change in surface rather than a printed line: raised velvet against a flatter ground, with the colour shifting as the light moves across it. The scale is tight, a 5 by 4 centimetre repeat, which means it reads as a rich texture from a few paces away and only declares itself as a pattern up close.

The composition is 53 per cent cotton and 47 per cent viscose, at 675 grams per square metre on a 140 centimetre width, with a 5 centimetre vertical and 4 centimetre horizontal repeat. It is rated at 50,000 Martindale rubs, so it is suitable for contract seating and for hard-worked family furniture alike, and Lizzo recommends it for upholstery and decorative pieces rather than curtains. Four numbered colourways are offered, in deep, saturated tones that suit a velvet of this weight; order by number.

We would put Lobby on a piece that deserves a bit of attention: a single statement armchair, the front of a bar or banquette in a dining room, or a run of stools where the small geometry hides wear. It pairs well with plain velvets and matt wools, and it gives a neutral room one point of pattern without adding much colour. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

The repeat is small but it still needs matching across seams, so add a repeat to each cut panel and keep the pile running the same way on every piece; velvet pile has a direction and a mismatched panel will look a different colour. Allow about 3.5 metres for a standard armchair. It should not be washed or ironed; dry clean only, and lift the pile with a soft clothes brush after use.
