Loggia is a plain upholstery weave from Lizzo, built for the terrace as well as the sitting room. It is woven from flame-retardant polypropylene and polyester, which sounds technical but in the hand it is a soft, slightly textured cloth with a dry, matt surface that hides its performance well. The weave has a subtle grain to it, so a plain colour never looks flat, and the supplier has designed it to live with light and weather.
The composition is 70 per cent flame-retardant polypropylene and 30 per cent flame-retardant polyester, at 528 grams per square metre on a 140 centimetre width, with no repeat. It carries a Martindale rating of 50,000 rubs, and Lizzo recommends it for upholstery, decorative pieces and contract use, indoors and out. There are sixteen numbered colourways, a broad palette that runs from pale naturals through to stronger tones for cushions, and you order by the number alone.
We use Loggia on the covered terrace first: outdoor sofa cushions, loungers under a pergola, the seats of a garden dining set. Indoors, it earns its place in holiday lets and family rooms, where a washable, inherently flame-retardant cloth on the sofa is worth more than a delicate one, and it looks entirely at home on an ottoman or a window seat. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
For outdoor use, ask your cushion maker to use a quick-drying foam and to sew with a UV-stable polyester thread, and bring the cushions in over the winter; the cloth is built for light and weather but the seams and fillings are not. There is no repeat, so cutting is economical; allow about 1.6 metres for a 60 by 60 centimetre box cushion with a piped edge. It can be washed at 30 degrees on a mild cycle, which is rare for an upholstery cloth.
