Lizzo | Meridian

Meridian is a bouclé-yarn jacquard from Lizzo's Echo collection, and the cloth is all about surface. Loops of viscose and wool sit proud of a polyester and cotton ground, so the light catches the raised yarn and leaves the rest in shadow; the effect is a soft, irregular texture with a low geometry to it, restrained enough to work as a plain from a distance. At 690 grams per square metre it is a heavyweight cloth with a dense, cushioned hand.

The blend is 49 per cent viscose, 26 per cent polyester, 13 per cent cotton, 11 per cent virgin wool and 1 per cent acrylic, on a 138 centimetre width with a 33.5 centimetre repeat in both directions. It carries a Martindale rating of 40,000 rubs, which is enough for contract seating as well as the family sofa, and Lizzo lists it for upholstery, curtains and lighter decorative pieces. Four numbered colourways are offered, in the warm, natural-toned register that bouclé tends to favour; order by number.

We use Meridian almost entirely on furniture: a deep, boxy sofa, a pair of tub chairs, or a curved headboard where the texture wraps around the shape. It sits well next to smooth surfaces, a plain wool at the window or a leather ottoman, and it gives a neutral scheme something to touch. We would only put it at the window as a single, heavy panel on a simple track. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Treat it as a patterned cloth for cutting purposes and allow for the 33.5 centimetre repeat so the texture aligns across seams; add about a third of a metre per panel for matching. Bouclé loops can snag, so ask your upholsterer to work with a fine needle and keep it off pieces that take a cat's claws. A tight, fully upholstered cover suits it better than loose covers, which will look bulky.
