Lizzo | Veranda

Veranda is a linen-blend jacquard curtain cloth from Lizzo's Les Jardins collection, with a botanical motif woven through it. Leaves and stems are drawn in the structure of the weave, so the pattern shows as a change of texture and a slight difference in tone rather than as a printed outline, and the linen gives it a dry, natural surface with the small irregularities you would expect. It has a relaxed, unforced quality; the sort of pattern you notice on the second visit.

The blend is 45 per cent linen, 25 per cent polyester, 20 per cent viscose and 10 per cent cotton, at 270 grams per square metre on a 300 centimetre width, made to be used turned with the width as the drop. The repeat is 81 centimetres along the roll and 67 centimetres across it. Lizzo lists it for curtains and cushions, and there is no rub-test figure because it is not an upholstery cloth. There are five numbered colourways in a soft, natural palette; order by number.

We use Veranda for full-length curtains in a garden room or bedroom, where the botanical motif can echo what is outside without shouting about it, and for cushions and a loose-covered footstool in the same room. It pairs well with a plain wool or a cotton velvet on the seating, and with limewashed walls. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Because it is railroaded, buy the width of the window rather than the drop, plus one 81 centimetre repeat per curtain for matching the pair at the leading edges; drops up to about 2.9 metres finished need no join. Line it, and interline it in a large room, so the linen blend hangs in full, steady folds. It can be washed at 30 degrees on a mild cycle, but for a made-up curtain we would dry clean.
