Lexington is a plain cotton with a dense, dry surface and no shine at all. The weave is tight and the cloth has body, so it holds a shape when it is upholstered and hangs with weight at a window. Seen flat it reads as solid colour; seen in a fold it shows a faint grain where the light catches the yarn. It is the sort of plain you build a scheme around.
It is 100 per cent cotton, 140 centimetres wide, with no pattern repeat. The Martindale rub test puts it at 30,000, rated general domestic, which covers curtains, blinds, headboards and seating in normal use. There are 36 colourways, among them Creme, Natural, Cement, French Grey, Foresta and Indigo — a spread that runs from bare plaster tones through greys and greens to proper blues and a small group of warm earths.
We use Lexington on upholstery where the shape matters: a tight-back sofa, a dining chair, a window seat. It takes a piped edge cleanly and does not pucker. At the window it makes calm full-length curtains, and it is a good partner for a patterned wallcovering, taking a single tone out of it and holding the room steady. Order a sample to see it in your own light, as the darks in particular change a great deal.
With no repeat, quantities are simple: drop plus hems for curtains, cut sizes plus turnings for upholstery. Cotton this dense benefits from a little extra allowance on upholstery so the cloth can be pulled properly over foam without strain. For full-length curtains we would line and interline; the cloth hangs well on its own, but interlining softens the fold. Cut all pieces for one item from a single length where you can.
