Babouches on linen is the fabric companion to the wallpaper of the same name, the pointed Moroccan slipper shape printed here on a pure linen ground rather than paper. The horizontal repeat runs the full 147 centimetre width of the cloth, so the motif carries across a single width without a seam breaking it up. It is a bohemian, well-travelled print, and the linen ground gives it a dry, settled hand that suits the mood. It carries the same character as the wallpaper, but the woven texture of the linen gives it a drier, more tactile feel than the smooth paper version.

The cloth is 100 per cent linen, 147 centimetres wide, with an 88 centimetre vertical repeat and a horizontal repeat of 147 centimetres. It is recommended for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Two colourways: Antique, on a warm, aged ground that flatters old furniture, and Teal, cooler and more contemporary. Both share the wallpaper's palette, so the two can be run together in one room.

We would hang it as curtains in a bedroom with the Babouches wallpaper on the walls in the same colourway, or upholster a single chair in it against a plainer scheme. A bedspread in Antique with a linen headboard is a simple, good-looking room. A pair of unlined curtains in a garden room shows the print at its most relaxed. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

A making-up note: with an 88 centimetre repeat, allow a full extra repeat per drop and centre a complete motif at the leading edge of each curtain. Pure linen moves a little with humidity, so let curtains hang before the final hem is set. It must be dry cleaned; do not wash, bleach or iron it.
