Babouches takes its name from the pointed Moroccan slipper, and the design turns that outline into a repeating, faintly exotic motif printed on a smooth non-woven paper. It belongs to the Icons range, the wallpapers Mulberry builds around a single bold emblem rather than a scattered print, so it reads as graphic and confident on the wall rather than busy. At 90 centimetres the repeat is a generous one, which gives the shape real scale and means it wants a proper wall to show itself off.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven and, at 70 centimetres, wider than Mulberry's usual roll, with a 90 centimetre vertical repeat. There are three colourways: Ivory is the quiet, tonal option for a room that wants texture rather than colour; Antique sits on a warm, aged ground that flatters old furniture; and Teal is the boldest, the one to choose if the room can take real depth. We would use it in a cloakroom or a small hall where a bold, single-motif paper earns its keep, or on the back wall of a dressing room. It papers a bedroom well too, provided the rest of the scheme stays plain: a linen headboard, a wool blanket, nothing else patterned. Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry, but check the leaflet in the roll for the maker's paste and match instruction. With a wide 70 centimetre roll and a 90 centimetre repeat, expect two to three drops from a standard 10 metre length, so a 4 metre wall will typically need two rolls, three if there are windows or returns to work around.
