Bohemian Stripe is a broad, painterly stripe printed on a linen ground, with the soft, slightly bled edge that comes from printing rather than weaving, so the bands feel more watercolour than ruled line. It is a linen-rich cloth, dry and substantial in the hand, and it carries the loose, unstudied character that runs through the whole Bohemian Romance collection. The width of the stripe is generous enough that it reads as a considered piece of colour rather than a background pattern.

The composition is 93 per cent linen, 5 per cent viscose and 2 per cent polyester, 130 centimetres wide, with a 65 centimetre horizontal repeat setting the width of the stripe. It is recommended for curtains and bedspreads rather than seating. There is one colourway, Multi, which runs several of the collection's colours through the stripe rather than keeping to one, so it can pull together a room that already has more than one print in it.

We would use it for a pair of curtains in a bedroom or a garden room, where its width and colour give a plain space real presence, or as a bedspread with the walls kept quiet. It sits well beside one of the collection's botanical prints on a cushion or a chair, and it is generous enough to work as the single pattern in an otherwise plain scheme. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

A making-up note: with a 65 centimetre repeat, allow a full extra repeat per drop and ask your maker to keep the bands level and matched across the width of a pair of curtains. Pure linen will need a season to settle after making up, so build in a little extra at the hem, and keep it out of direct, unfiltered sun. Dry clean only.
