Bohemian Texture is exactly what it says: a softly mottled, non-repeating texture from Mulberry's Bohemian Romance book rather than a drawn motif, printed with a light metallic finish that shifts as you move past it. It reads more like a hand-finished plaster or a beaten metal surface than a conventional wallpaper, and it is one of the quieter papers in a collection otherwise full of pattern, there to calm a room down rather than add to the noise.

The paper is 100 per cent non-woven and 52 centimetres wide, with the same 52 centimetre figure standing in for the repeat, since the texture is designed to tile without an obvious join. There is one colourway, Silver, a cool, soft metallic that reads as a neutral in daylight and comes alive under lamplight or candlelight in the evening, which is worth bearing in mind when you choose the room for it.

We would use it behind a bed with a dark or upholstered headboard, in a small cloakroom where the metallic pick-up has real impact, or as a foil to one of Mulberry's bolder Bohemian prints used elsewhere in the same room, on curtains or an armchair. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room, since metallics change considerably with the light through the day.

As a non-woven paper it is usually pasted to the wall and hung dry; check the leaflet in the roll for the maker's own instruction, and take care not to crease or burnish the surface while handling it, since a metallic finish shows marks more readily than a matt one. A standard 10 metre roll should give three to four drops at a 2.4 metre ceiling, so order a little extra from the same batch and keep the offcuts for a small project such as a lampshade.
