Buckland is one of the Icons Wallpapers, Mulberry's collection of signature, best-loved patterns, and it is built around a large, curling paisley motif drawn with real confidence across a smooth non-woven paper. The paisleys interlock closely enough to read as one continuous, almost architectural pattern rather than a series of individual motifs, which is what gives it that quiet sense of having always been there.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 70 centimetres wide, with a 46 centimetre vertical repeat. There are four colourways: Woodsmoke is the deepest and most graphic, a dark neutral that reads almost as a texture; Blue is fresher and cooler; and Red/Blue and Red/Plum both bring in a second colour, the first crisper, the second richer and more autumnal. Woodsmoke is the one we use most often, since it behaves as a background for almost anything.
We would paper a hall, a study or a dining room in it, where the scale and the pattern can be properly appreciated, or use it on a single wall behind a bed with the rest of the room kept plain. It is also a strong choice for a cloakroom, where a bold paisley does not have to compete with much else. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry; check the leaflet in the roll for the paste and match, and have your decorator plan the first drop carefully, since a paisley of this scale shows any misalignment quickly. As a rule of thumb, a standard 10 metre roll gives three drops at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall takes two rolls. Buy from a single batch.
