Country Walk is the print the whole collection takes its name from, a loose, generous floral drawn with the same eye for the English countryside that runs through the range: hedgerow flowers rather than a formal border, printed on a viscose and linen ground with just enough sheen to lift the colour. It has the relaxed, slightly faded quality of a pattern that has always belonged in an old house, not one designed to look new.

The cloth is an 82 per cent viscose, 18 per cent linen union, which gives it a soft, fluid drape rather than the crispness of a pure linen. It is 138 centimetres wide, with a 70 centimetre vertical repeat and a 69 centimetre horizontal one, and it is recommended for curtains and upholstery, with enough repeat in hand for a bedspread too. There are four colourways: Charcoal is the moody, sophisticated one; Blue and Emerald are fresh and garden-like; and Red/Green is the most traditionally English of the four.

We would hang it as full-length curtains in a sitting room or a principal bedroom, interlined so the folds stay generous, and let a plain wool or a narrow stripe do the quieter work elsewhere. It also makes a handsome loose cover on a deep armchair, or a bedspread with a plain linen headboard beneath it. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

With a 70 centimetre repeat, allow one extra repeat per drop when you calculate curtain quantities, and ask your maker to place a complete motif just below the heading and again at the hem. For upholstery, centre the pattern on the inside back and be prepared for a little more waste than a plain would cost you. Dry clean only; it should not be washed, bleached or ironed.
