Country Walk is exactly what its name promises: a wallpaper made up of small, linear vignettes of the English countryside, a stile, a hedgerow, a dog at heel, scattered across a plain ground at a grand scale and printed on smooth non-woven paper. It reads less as a repeat and more as a scrapbook of a Sunday walk, and it is the flagship design of the Country Walk Wallpapers collection, with a light, illustrative touch that keeps a big pattern from feeling heavy.

The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 70 centimetres wide, with a 73.5 centimetre vertical repeat, so the vignettes have plenty of room between them. There are five colourways: Charcoal is the most graphic, line on a pale ground; Blue and Emerald are single-colour versions, cool and fresh; Teal/Rose pairs two soft tones; and Red/Green is the most traditional and the closest to a scene you might actually walk through. Charcoal suits a hall or a study; the softer colours suit a bedroom or a landing.

We would paper a downstairs cloakroom or a boot room in it, where the subject matter earns its place, or use it on the stair and landing of a country house. It also makes an unexpected choice for a child's bedroom in one of the softer colourways. Keep the rest of the room in plain paint or a plain wool. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry; check the leaflet in the roll for the paste and match, and have your decorator plan the first drop so a complete vignette, rather than a half one, falls at eye level. As a rule of thumb, a standard 10 metre roll gives three drops at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall takes two rolls. Buy from a single batch.
